Wednesday 29th April

Today, there was a buzz in the air as the children packed their suitcases and prepared for the day ahead. Fingers crossed they have packed only their items in their suitcases? 🤞🏽

With sandwiches made and breakfast eaten we set off for our final activity in this wonderful place!

Wednesday1

The Mill

Group 2 have arrived safely in East Bergholt where they will enjoy spotting the historic sites that we have discussed in school. I wonder how many times they will spot the word ‘Constable’ in the village? We will share some photos as soon as they arrive at Flatford.

Ennion have had a fabulous morning hunting for creatures in a variety of habitats within the grounds. They used tree hackers and nets to catch the creatures and placed them in pots to take a closer look. Everyone was super engaged and immersed in the activity  and managed to find a whole host of creatures, including hover flies, caterpillars, flies, beetles, wood lice a slug and even the very rare….Heidi!

Wednesday2

As Group 2 descended on Flatford, it was fabulous to hear the shrieks of excitement (from both halves) as the children talked of the fun they have had and the wide eyed enthusiasm of a group refreshed and ready for the days ahead. We all sat together to share a’welcome’ and ‘farewell’ feast on the field in the glorious sunshine.

After lunch, it was time for a group photo and for the amazing first half to return home - tired, but with memories made and many stories to share. And, for Group 2 to begin their adventure….

Bingley’s afternoon challenge was to understand why animals could be considered ‘disappearing’. They got to walk along trails, that are off the beaten track, to hunt for animal poo, tracks and other signs of animal life within the varying habitats. Obviously, everyone loved playing, ‘Whose poo?’ as they got to shout the phrase out loud whenever they spotted animal poo! The children also got an insight into the damage humans are causing to wildlife by playing a fun game.

The children also set their animal traps. 🤞🏽 we have more luck than the first half!

This afternoon Ennion Group experienced navigating their way along local footpaths using compass directions and solving questions using 6-figure grid references. We earned points for the fastest time, teamwork and correct answers.

Wednesday Ennion Orienteering

We did all get back in time to learn how to set traps for small mammals. Fingers crossed we are successful and see either a mouse, vole or shrew.

Finally, after dinner, we experienced a woodland walk using all our senses; listening to different bird call, challenging ourselves to navigate using the sense of touch and seeing if we can use our sense of smell. We also talked about resilience and how we can deal with tricky situations.
