Summer 1 Week 3
In Handwriting, we have been practising the letter ‘f’ and enjoyed taking our learning outside by using chalk to write on the playground.
In Art, we have been using oil pastels to create beautiful drawings of flora and fauna.
In Maths, we used manipulatives to help us understand arrays and explore how they show equal groups.
In Geography, we have been learning about maps. We explored a map of the school grounds and used it to locate different spots, collecting letters along the way to solve a secret code!
Summer 1 Week 3
Summer 1 Week 2
In RE, we learned that Hindus use all of their senses when worshipping. To explore this idea, we carried out a fun experiment using chocolate! Jorge was only allowed to look at the chocolate, Savannah could only smell it, Alfie could only listen to it, Elsie Mae could only touch it, and Jesse was only allowed to taste it. We discovered that using just one sense didn’t give the full experience, so we tested our theory by using all our senses together — and enjoyed eating the chocolate much more!
In English, we wrote instructions on how to make a cress head. On Wednesday, we worked in pairs to follow our own instructions and create our cress heads. We are excited to watch them grow!
We have also started our new story, Where the Wild Things Are, and have really enjoyed acting it out. After practising in groups, we took turns performing in front of the class.
Finally, for Dementia Awareness Week, we decorated blue forget-me-not flowers that will be displayed as bunting around Braintree town.

Summer 1 Week 1
In Maths, we enjoyed a practical lesson measuring and comparing mass. We explored a range of objects using scales and discussed how their weights differed.
In Art, we have begun our new topic on flora and fauna. We looked at a variety of artwork and created sketches inspired by our favourite pieces.
In Science, we started our topic on plants. We examined different seeds using magnifying glasses and drew what we could see. We then made predictions about what each seed might grow into. Working alongside Lions class, we planted lettuce, bean, cress and sunflower seeds, which are now in our school greenhouse. We are excited to watch them grow (hopefully!)

Week 2
This week in PE, the children have been practising their ball skills. They enjoyed carefully moving the ball from hand to hand and around their waist, before having a go at dribbling with more control.
In Art, we got creative using oil pastels to make bright and colourful snail spirals.
In PSHE, we talked about how we can achieve our goals by taking small steps. Mrs Woods tried to make a jam sandwich without any instructions – and it went very wrong and was incredibly messy! The children then helped to create clear, step-by-step instructions and, together, we made the perfect jam sandwich. We also completed a fun challenge where the children worked with a partner, sitting back to back and linking arms to stand up. It was great fun and showed fantastic teamwork!

Spring 1 Week 1
This week in Computing, the children became brilliant problem-solvers as they learned how to debug a Bee-Bot. They were given a set of instructions that didn’t work and had to carefully work out what went wrong. By correcting the instructions and reprogramming the Bee-Bot, they showed great perseverance and logical thinking.
In Science, we have been learning about materials. The children enjoyed sorting a variety of objects and deciding which material they were made from, using their observation skills and new vocabulary.
In Art, we practised drawing spirals in our sketchbooks, focusing on careful pencil control.
Finally, we are excited to have a Battery Monster in our classroom, cleverly made by Emelia, our Eco Champion. If you have any old batteries at home, please bring them in and let our Battery Monster gobble them up so they can be recycled safely!
Flamingo Gallery Spring 1 Week 1
Week 7
This week in Computing, the children learned that an algorithm is a set of clear instructions. They put this into practice by carefully following step-by-step instructions to cut out and assemble a Mr Potato Head, showing excellent listening skills. The children then had great fun programming a Bee-Bot, giving it simple instructions to help it move to a chosen destination.
We also enjoyed some relaxing DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read). The children chose a good book, found a comfy spot, and settled down to enjoy some quiet reading time together.

Week 6
This week in Art, the children created beautiful snowflake foam prints. They carefully designed and engraved their own snowflake onto a piece of foam, then used rollers and paint to print the pattern four times in their sketchbooks, producing a striking repeated design. In RE, we explored the meaning of a Christingle and discussed what each part represents. The children really enjoyed making their own Christingles and took great care in assembling them. Finally, we have absolutely LOVED performing in our two Christmas concerts this week. We hope you enjoyed them as much as we did! We also took some special class photos to remember the occasion.
Flamingo Gallery wk 6
Week 5
This week we visited Butterfly Class in Year 2, where they shared their instructions for making a “disgusting sandwich.” Our class listened carefully and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. In English, we brought Giraffes Can’t Dance to life through drama. The whole class took part in acting out the scenes, and volunteers then stepped forward to perform each one for their classmates. Finally, in Art the children explored printing techniques using plasticine and real shells. They enjoyed experimenting with different textures and patterns and produced some beautiful shell-inspired prints.

Week 4
This week in Science, we have been sorting animals into their three groups: herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. In RE, we welcomed Katie from Notley Church, who visited to discuss the Nativity Story. She used puppets to retell the story and encouraged the children to think of ways they could send a message of love to others. In Art, the children completed their hand and foot canvases by adding beautiful flower outlines. They are very proud of their stunning finished pieces!
Flamingo Gallery wk 4
Week 3
This week, our table groups worked collaboratively to create a wonderful piece of artwork. Each child used either their handprint or footprint to make their mark on a large sheet of paper, choosing a different colour to contribute to the design. The children are extremely proud of their collective masterpiece, and next week we will be using these colourful prints as the canvas for our next exciting art project!

Week 2
This week we enjoyed celebrating our differences on Odd Socks Day — everyone’s socks were wonderfully unique! On Tuesday 11th November, I was very proud of Flamingo Class for respectfully observing our school’s two-minute silence. We had a lovely time creating fingerprint poppy artwork to help us remember this important day. In RE we explored our Christmas family traditions and discussed the different ways we prepare for the festive season. We looked at advent calendars and imagined what a kindness advent calendar might include. Each child then chose one thoughtful action they could carry out in the lead-up to Christmas. Parents, take note—some children pledged to tidy their bedrooms or even help by laying the table for dinner!
